The PACS Core makes up the 'back-end' of the Connect Imaging PACS. It receives images via DICOM associations from modalities, stores the studies in a folder structure, make entries in the database for retrieval, forwards and prefetches studies, and responds to requests for studies from workstations and DICOM programs.

The PACS Core runs as services on a Windows 2008 Server or Windows 2012 Server. The services log all communications to a log, and a separate log reader program can be used to read the log in real time.

The PACS Core can be licensed for a basic archive for a small user up to a Vendor Neutral Archive for multiple accounts. The PACS Core is ideal as a Vendor Neutral Archive in a data center because it uses very little machine resources to process studies faster than most other systems.
